Tree cablingThere are many reasons why a tree may need support. The best known is when you plant a tree that is of a size that you can appreciate. You may have noticed that you often put a stake near a newly planted tree and attach the tree to that stake. This gives the tree stability while it is rooting in the ground. The tree will be protected in case of strong winds or if someone inadvertently hooks it. Be aware that there are several other reasons why cables are used to give support to the tree. We will explore one together.
Problem of structureIn urban areas, trees do not grow in the same conditions as in the forest. For example, trees in cities have very little competition unlike trees that grow in rural areas. This means that they very often have access to all the sunlight at all times. Sometimes this can cause an imbalance in the structure of the tree. One of the problems encountered is that the head of the tree is much too large in relation to its base. By combining well-planned pruning with the guying technique, we are usually able to correct this type of structural problem.
